 My name is Deloria. I created the DelAroma scented jar because I grew so weary of the mess that scented candles made of our home. I never liked their open flame, dripping wax, soot, smoke, leaded wicks and high cost. However, I did love their aromas and how they helped to eliminate pet odors and other offensive smells. There had to be a better way - without all of these disadvantages!
I began with a potpourri of the finest rose hips plus several delightfully scented fragrance oils. I scented the rose hips with quality aroma oils and placed them inside mason jars, each with a small string of clear miniature lights. The beautiful lights provided mild warmth to release the aroma of the scented oils without fire hazard, making it serve as a great night light, too! Sadly, though, it didn't produce quite enough aroma to fill the entire room.
 So my husband, John, drilled a hole near the bottom to install the lights. Why? Air was automatically drawn in as the warm, scented air rose out the top. This process, called natural convection, proved to be the key to DelAroma's effectiveness! It produced plenty of aroma without making a mess plus, if the wire was tugged, tipping was now unlikely. But, how could I make it more attractive and decorative?
The solution was to top each scented jar with a handmade crocheted doily, tying it securely with an attractive ribbon! We began offering them at local fairs and craft shows. They were an instant hit! John got the idea to add elegant jars and vases. So, DelAroma now comes in several sizes, shapes and colors ... and in ten heavenly scents! We even offer six of our models in stylish, hand-painted versions for more demanding home décor needs. And, just to make sure we've covered all the bases, we also offer these handmade country crafts of ours in an appealing "Primitive Crafts" line! Married for over 31 years, we are 29 year residents of Gales Ferry, Connecticut. We raised two wonderful sons, of whom we are very proud. Our oldest, Brennan, has left the nest and is now prospering in Burlington, VT in the film and video editing field. Brennan has also become a vital part of our business! He now produces and offers our DormAroma line in Burlington, Vermont as a safe & clean alternative to scented candles and incense burners for Vermont's youth market. Our youngest, André, who has graduated magna cum laude from Plymouth State University, also lives and works in Bulington where he continues to make us very proud. Q: How do I qualify for the 10% product discount?

Q: What makes DelAroma better than scented candles?
A: DelAroma has no flame, no soot, no smoke and no dripping wax. So, it's safer and cleaner. Some scented candles even have lead in their wicks, which means you're breathing in a toxic metal. Not good! Plus, DelAroma is a more attractive home accent and costs much less than constantly buying expensive scented jar candles. Did I mention the cost of re-painting your soot-covered walls, or of shampooing your soot-covered carpet? And, remember, there is no such thing as a totally clean or safe candle. Some put out less soot & smoke, but none eliminate it entirely. Also, by their very nature, all candles have a flame. That means all scented candles pose a direct fire hazard. Ask any fire fighter! They've seen the dark, and tragic, side of candle flames.
Q: Why is DelAroma a better choice than a potpourri cooker?
A: Under the right conditions potpourri can actually catch fire in a cooker. The potpourri in a cooker eventually shrivels and requires replacement. The rose hips in a DelAroma scented jar last indefinitely and won't burn from the mild warmth of the mini lights! They're the perfect medium for the job. Handmade country crafts and primitive crafts, like DelAroma jar and vase designs, are a more decorative accent for your home, too.
Q: Is DelAroma a wise alternative to incense burners and incense sticks?
A: Absolutely. And now, since we're offering our new DormAroma line of scented mason jars, it's wiser than ever! DormAroma scented jars are adorned with hand crocheted beaded hemp instead of ribbon and are topped with ventilated, screw-on tin tops instead of doilies. They're available in Nag Champa, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Cinnamon and Vanilla aromas! Incense sticks and incense burners are a potential fire hazard and really ruin a room's breathing air quality. DelAroma and DormAroma jars eliminate these problems, and are allowed for college dormitory use (contact your particular college or university to confirm).
Q: There are many different types of potpourri, so why rose hips?
A: Though rose hips are much more costly than other types of potpourri, we will use nothing else for several reasons. Rose hips are far less flammable than dried flowers and thinly shaved wood chips. Rose hips won't shrivel or spoil, so they last and last. They're all natural. In fact, rose hips are used to make vitamin C, tea, jams and jellies! Rose hips readily absorb the aroma oils, but they allow the fragrance oils to evaporate away just as readily. They're the perfect potpourri for the job!
Q: Who needs a DelAroma scented jar or vase the most?
A: Did you know that many landlords won't allow renters to burn candles? Did you know that college students living in a dormitory, office workers and nursing home residents are also not allowed to burn candles? These people would appreciate receiving a DelAroma! Even more importantly, many elderly and challenged individuals would be kept much safer without an open candle flame in their home.
Q: How long will the aroma last, and can it be refreshed?
A: If you turn it on for roughly 2 hours a day the aroma lasts for up to 2 months, or so. Then follow the tag's directions to refresh the scent using the included vial of scented oil. You're all set for up to another couple months! You use only a few drops at a time, so the vial could last a year, or even longer! Five minutes at your kitchen table versus shopping for more dangerous $25 scented candles - not a bad trade!
Q: How do you refresh a DelAroma scented jar's, or vase's, aroma?
A: First, retain the hang tag. Step-by-step directions are on the back. Never pour oil into the jar or vase! This only reaches the top rose hips and can ruin the lights. Don't use excess oil as a little bit goes a long way. Remove the top, pull out the lights, and lay them to the side. Pour the rose hips into a resealable container. Drip the oil (see tag - usually about 14 drops) over all the rose hips. Mix the rose hips well, for about 20 - 30 seconds. Leave them sealed for at least 24 hours while the oil is being absorbed. Pour the rose hips back into the jar/vase as you also lower the lights back in. Jiggle the jar at the half-filled point to settle the contents. Once full, put the top back on. Good work! You avoided buying another dangerous, messy and expensive candle!
Q: How does a DelAroma scented jar, or vase, work?
A: We use only the finest, concentrated scented oils on the rose hips. Essential oils are used in the blending of our fragrance oils to make them more effective and long lasting. The mild warmth of the miniature lights evaporates these aroma oils from the rose hips. The warm, scented air rises out the top as new air is automatically drawn in through the special hole we've drilled (See photo, above, on this page). This process is called natural convection or natural circulation, and it's very effective!
Q: How safe is it ... really?
A: In a word - VERY! There's no flame. It never overheats, so it won't burn. There's no soot or smoke, so the air you breathe is more healthful. The lights have 2 safety fuses. Our jars and vases are very stable, so they're not prone to tipping over. The fragrance oils and rose hips and cotton doilies are 100% natural. There are no chemicals. DelAroma is a "green" product - very Earth friendly!
Q: What if a light burns out?
A: Our lights are designed to remain lit even if one or more bulbs burn out. Each scented jar and vase comes with spare bulbs and a spare fuse. The bulbs are designed to last through about 3,000 hours of use! They're easy to get to by simply pulling the set out through the top.
Q: Can I change the rose hips' aroma with different scented oils?
A: Sure! Order a vial or two of the scented oils you want. Once you let the original aroma fade away start using the new aroma oils. Also, don't be afraid to mix scented oils. The results can be wonderful! If you already have high quality concentrated scented oils or aroma oils, that were used in devices such as electric oil warmers or scented oil warmers or essential oil diffusers, you can use those oils to scent your DelAroma rose hips potpourri, too!
Q: How much money can I expect to save over using scented candles?
A: That's a little difficult to say. You'll definitely spend less money. How much less depends on how often you use scented jar candles now. One quality candle at a Y_ _ _ _ _ Candle shop can cost $25 or more! Of course, you'll have to buy more and more and, well, you get the idea. One DelAroma mason jar costs less than one of those, and it lasts and lasts! So, let's just say your wallet will stay much fatter. You'll save when compared to using costly plug in air fresheners and incence sticks, too.
